Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by infection with Chlamydia trachomatis bacterium. Those infected usually have little or no symptoms. Therefore, it is essential to receive STI screening regularly. Symptoms are similar to gonorrhoea such as dysuria and pyuria.
Transmission
- • Condomless vaginal, neovaginal or anal sex
- • Condomless oral sex
Treatment
Chlamydia can be treated with oral antibiotics. Common treatments are doxycycline 100 mg orally twice a day for 7 days or azithromycin 1 g orally in a single dose. It is recommended to bring your sexual partners to testing and treatment regardless of symptoms
Prevention
- • Use condom when having sex
- • Always keep sex toys hygiene and no reuse of condoms
- • Regular sexual health check-ups when at risk
Screening/Testing
A specimen collection from throat, anus, and urine or vaginal/neovaginal by yourself or by healthcare providers. The test result will be known approximately within 2 hours.
